I've been working with the Marian University Business Club (MUBC) for two years, serving primarily as the Secretary. Our mission as a club is to serve the needs of eager members by providing unique and exclusive opportunities to learn new skills, network, and grow as business professionals. Our small team has fulfilled this mission by organizing regular events that include, but are not limited to, guest speakers, workshops, and business tours.
The skills I've learned from the club are unlike those I am learning in the classroom. I've had the privilege of handling real-world event planning, discussions with successful business professionals, and frequent club communications. These opportunities have forced me to think deeply about club organization and culture, something we are continuously trying to improve in our small community. I am grateful for the translatable, invaluable skills I am gaining from my involvement with the Business Club. I plan to continue working closely with the club, making efforts to gain new members and grow the club.
Below are a few events we organized and held as a club in the 25-26 year:
Business Relationship Managers at BMO
Managing clientele in bank lending, Robin Merkel and Kristina Hegenscheidt guided MUBC through a financial literacy session, with emphasis on loan provision and Small Business Ownership (SBOs).
Financial Professional at WestPoint Financial
A Marian Alumnus, Dawson Schwengler, informally discussed his journey from college student to financial professional. Local experience served as valuable information to aspiring professionals in the MUBC.
Financial Planner at NWM
Providing opportunities for internships, Renee Wisniowicz brought financial knowledge and internal connection to Northwestern Mutual, where MUBC members were granted the opportunity to explore career paths through an exclusive connection.
The MUBC organized and hosted a LinkedIn and Resume workshop, "Pizza with Professionals", where professional resume consultants and career advisors gathered to help interested students strengthen their resumes and social profiles before spring hiring rounds.
Promoted through MUBC, club members were invited to join a small group of students in the 19th Annual Economic Forecast Breakfast, hosted by Envision Greater Fond du Lac. The event served as an informative economic session and a key networking event for members.
Serving as a Year-End celebration, the MUBC hosted members, along with other Marian students, to join them at a local baseball event. A party deck with food and drink was rented. The Timber Rattlers, a High-A team based in Appleton, hosted nearly 20 students who were excited to celebrate the club's success, as well as the individual success of various students and athletes.
