Professional Responsibility
Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice
The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner. (El Ed and Sec. Ed - Phil of Ed professional development plan)
Standard #10: Leadership and Collaboration
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession. (El Ed and Sec. Ed - Philosophy of Ed professional development plan)
Standard #11 Teacher as Servant
The teacher personalizes the departmental “teacher as servant” motto, linking their past educational experiences and future call as educator to Christ’s embodiment of humble servant. (not InTASC: proprietary to our department) (El Ed and Sec. Ed - Philosophy of Education incorporation of faith into teaching)
For this I chose my tutoring experience in Mbuguni, Arusha, Tanzania. I was able to exhibit teacher as servant through the whole experience of an unpaid tutoring position. This adventure helped me to see how full of life my students will be like these students were and that in the future I can help them to see that grades are important but their self worth is so much more important than what grade they get or how well they do on an assignment. I hope to show this in my future classroom by caring first for the wellbeing of my students.
