Learner and Learning
Standard #1: Learner Development
The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.
For this standard, I chose a presentation that I completed in Integrating Arts. This wellness presentation represents this first standard as it shows ways to implement social and emotional learning inside the classroom while also giving a series of strategies for teachers to use inside of the classroom. I chose this presentation because it gives examples of how I intend to incorporate social and emotional learning in my classroom. This is a also great presentation for me to continue looking back on in my future classroom when I feel stuck on what strategies or way I should be implementing social and emotional learning inside my classroom.
Standard #2: Learning Differences
The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.
I decided to use a Social Studies lesson I made about Jobs in Our Community for this standard. I selected this lesson because it demonstrates how I use a range of accommodations and instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
I use visuals, sentence frames, small group instruction, and flexible response options to support ELL students, struggling learners, advanced learners, and students with IEPs in this lesson. In order to guarantee that every student can access the material in a variety of ways, I also employ activities like discussion, graphic organizers, and group projects. All students can achieve high standards in an inclusive learning environment thanks to this.
Standard #3: Learning Environments
The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
For this standard, I chose my Classroom Management and Effective Learning Plan that I made in my Behavior Management class. The reason I chose this artifact is because it demonstrates how I create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages collaboration, engagement, and student motivation .
In this plan, I focus on building strong relationships with students through strategies like sharing daily “joys” and using the 2x10 strategy to connect individually with students. I also establish clear procedures and routines to create a structured and safe environment. Additionally, I provide opportunities for collaboration, student choice, and multiple ways to engage in learning, which helps promote positive social interaction and active participation. This supports a classroom where all students feel included, motivated, and ready to learn.
