Standard #4: Content Knowledge 

The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content. (El Ed - Unit plans in methods of Science, Math, SS, and LA: Sec. Ed - recommendation from the secondary content department) 

For this standard, I chose my Social Studies Unit Plan I created in my Teaching Social Studies class. I decided to use my Social Studies Unit Plan from my Teaching Social Studies class for this standard. I selected this unit plan because it demonstrates my grasp of important social studies ideas, such as geography and community, and how to make them relevant for students.

To help students grasp the material in this unit, I employ techniques like modeling, practical exercises, and discussions. By encouraging students to investigate and establish their own communities, I also help them make connections between what they are learning and their real-world experiences. This promotes student mastery and makes the material more interesting.

Standard #5: Application of Content 

The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.  (El Ed - EDU 329 Teaching Social studies unit plan; Sec. Ed - Special Methods Unit Plan)

For this standard I chose a lesson plan that I made in my Integrating Arts class. The lesson plan I chose is one where I got to choose another cultures dance and integrate it into a lesson in a unique way. The way I did this was in this lesson the students learned the background of the Hawaiian culture while also getting to learn the hula which allows my students to find a fun and interactive way to learn more about the Hawaiian culture! This lesson matches standard 5 because it creatively engages the learners to help them understand and indulge themselves in the Hawaiian culture.
