One of the most asked about questions throughout the year has to do with weather updates. Here is a quick rundown of how practices are handled when it comes to weather.
Rain does not typically cancel a practice. We are very luck to have a practice field that drains water very well and can typically play in or after a rain storm.
Lightning, Hail, Ice and Damaging wind are typically factors that will cancel or delay a practice. We monitor for lightning within a 10 mile radius.
Coaches do not post updates that a scheduled event will still be taking place at the original time. If it is still on GameChanger, than the event is still on or a decision has yet to have been made. Question such as, "Are we still practicing" can be answered, "Yes," by the lack of an update and that the event is still posted on GameChanger.
Coaches do post event cancellations and delays.
You are an adult, if you disagree with the coaches decision that is fine. Please continue to make appropriate parenting decisions for your family and excuse yourself if needed. Please do not post reasons why you think the coach is wrong or attempt to create a don't show up bandwagon with the other families.
Coaches do not make decisions about games. They are made by the City and/or the league.
The City of Fort Worth owns and operates the fields. Unfortunately they many times are quick to close the fields due to rain because of the additional work caused to rake cleat marks out of the infield. This unfortunately is out of our control.
The City posts field closures on its app RainOut Line.
The League monitors for lightening and other damaging factors and will delay or cancel games if needed.
If a lightning strike is within 10 miles, Players will clear the field to return to the dugout or vehicle. The game will resume 30 minutes after the last lighting strike if able.
Typically if the city does not close the field, the league makes every effort to play the game. This sometimes will cause a game time decision after teams have arrived to the park.
There may be times where the expectation is to arrive and play as soon as weather has past.
The League posts updated to the rain out phone line at 817-543-4455.
Coaches do not receive updates before parents. Coaches get information via the City of Fort Worth's RainOut Line App or the League's Rain out telephone Line. You too can monitor both of these sources otherwise, the coach will post delays and cancelations via a game changer message as soon as they receive the information.
