SRC REPORT

Hello everyone,

Harmony week will be held in week 8. There will be games of bubble soccer and other team building exercises. For any suggestions of how we can make harmony week a fun and inclusive one, see an SRC rep.

Our grey jumpers have been very popular. Pop into the uniform shop on Wednesday at any break time to grab one for yourself. They cost $39 and are well worth it.

In environmental news, our clean up Australia Day was a great success, yielding a disappointing amount of rubbish from the school and local area. The majority of it was small. Please make sure your straws, gum wrappers, and chip packets make it to the bin.

Have a great weekend

Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO)

At Bomaderry High School, your trained Anti-Racism Contact Officers (ARCO) are Mrs Marie Van-Beek and Ms Tahlia Swain. We are here to assist parents, staff and students who have complaints regarding racism and can guide you through the complaints handling process. Our role is also an educational one and we will be working with students throughout the school to understand the issue of racism but also to celebrate the cultural diversity we have in our school community. If you have any queries, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your ARCO. Students and staff can find Ms Swain in the Library and Mrs Van-Beek in E Block.

AGRICULTURE NEWS

Year 12 Primary Industries had a successful show season, winning 5 ribbons over Berry , Nowra and Kangaroo Valley Shows. Congratulations girls.

Good luck to Year 10 Agriculture and Year 11 Primary Industries students, who are currently preparing two steers for the Schools Steer Spectacular in May.

School Photos - Tuesday 2 April

School photo day is Tuesday 2nd April 2019 -this is Tuesday of week 10.

Once the student information has been entered in the computer and sent to the photo company we will have a code for parents/carers to pay the photo company online.

Last year some credit card transactions were not complete/invalid which delayed the printing of some individual packages. Once payment has been made there should be a confirmation of the order. It is a good idea to print or take a photo of this conformation. Students will be notified when the code is available.

Students also have the option to use the photo envelope provided and pay the photographers on the day. Correct money for the photo package needs to be placed in the envelope as change is not readily available. Coins inside the envelope need to be wrapped or placed into a snap-lock bag to prevent them falling out of the envelope. Envelopes will be handed out soon. Students who forget their money on the day will need to pay the photo company online by the 5th April 2019.

All students have their photo taken regardless of photo purchases.

There are additional envelopes for family photos, sporting teams and groups. Year 12 have an additional muck-up photo in fancy dress/costume as part of their package.

More information will be passed on during morning assembly/ roll call prior to photo day.

Dr Julia Collins an Outreach Officer for the ChooseMaths program which is part of the AMSI (Australian Mathematical Science Institute) presented to some of the students of BHS on Tuesday 5th March. Graduating with an MMath in 2006 and a PhD in Knot Theory in 2011, Julia is passionate about communicating the beauty and wonder of mathematics. She was joined by Dr Maureen Edward from the UOW. Dr Maureen Edwards is a senior lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics.

They talked to the stage 5.3 and stage 6 mathematics & Extension classes about the importance of further studies in Mathematics.

We would like to thank Quinn Patterson, ex Bomaderry HS student, who arranged for this presentation to come to Bomaderry HS. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students.
