Industrial Arts and Technology

Industrial Arts report

The year has started frantically with year 12 major works well and truly underway in both industrial technology Multi Media and Industrial Technology Timber, as well as continuing subjects and new classes. See detailed report below for more information.

Year 10 metal are well on their way in manufacturing and assembling a machine vice whilst year 10 wood are finishing off their plans and about to order timber for their major projects.

A reminder to any student that has not collected their projects from last year to do so immediately so that space can be made for the work that is getting underway. Fees for practical subjects are now due to allow for material and tool purchases.

Technology classes are busily completing introduction projects and are researching and designing for their next projects that will take them through over Easter.

It was great to see our next generation of students visit us in the computing and woodwork rooms on Monday night and we look forward to them becoming future problem solvers and industrial arts students in the years to come.

We have some exciting news with Mr Hundt joining us from term 2 after the retirement of Mr Ray Ford at the end of 2018.

Multimedia

Multimedia is a subject offered in Yr 11 and Yr 12 at Bomaderry High School. It invites students to explore a range of different mediums, including video, sound, webdesign and gaming. These skills are becoming increasingly important in nearly every industry, as well as in our day-to-day lives. The HSC and Preliminary courses give students an awareness of the structure of multimedia industries, as well as practical production skills.

This term, Yr 11 have been using the industry-standard video production software Premiere Pro to hone their editing skills. They have created storyboards and are in the process of filming their concepts. Next, they will spend a number of lessons grading the colour of their footage, adding titles and transitions, as well as incorporating SFX and music.

Having started their Major Projects in Term 4 of 2018, Yr 12 are nearly half-way through their HSC course. A number of students have elected to produce videos on the natural wonders of the Shoalhaven, and have been busy filming at a number of locations from Kiama down to Jervis Bay. Two students are using their coding skills to develop original video games which they plan to host online, while another is creating a functioning website for a restaurant.

The school acquired several HD and UHD (4K) cameras last year, as well as twenty new computers. These resources have allowed students of Bomaderry High School to incorporate the latest technology into their projects. Any students who is interested in learning how to edit videos is welcome to visit Mr Love in the Industrial Arts Staffroom for advice and use of computers.

Yr 7 and Yr 8 Technology Mandatory classes have been busy learning to produce and manipulate spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. They have shown great promise in their ability to order data and write algorithms, ranging from calculating the average height of students in their class to the percentage of their peers with a particular eye colour. Later this term, they will practice producing formal documents in Microsft Word and begin learning the basics of Computer Coding.

Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber and Furniture

Year 12 took advantage of the Bomaderry High School Open night and demonstrated their skills to an interested crowd of prospective students and their Guardians.

The HSC year is well and truly into the swing and finds ours senior students positioned well in terms of project progress and reporting. A wealth of planning and production skills are in use laying the foundation for a successful Industrial Timber and Furniture presentation in late August. Please see some impromptu photographs of the open night workshop session.
