Course:

Topics in Plurality

Lecturers: Viola Schmitt, Nina Haslinger & Yasu Sudo

We will discuss basic and advanced issues surrounding plurality and number marking in natural language. We will presuppose no prior familiarity with theories of plurality, and start with introductory material, but we will eventually cover recent theories (including the lecturers') and discuss novel experimental data, crosslinguistic data (drawn from Slovenian, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, etc.) and the 'scope' of plurality, i.e. the question which expressions display symptoms of plurality.
