Course:

Processing Ambiguity

Lecturers: Daniele Panizza

This course will give an overview on recent experimental studies investigating online comprehension of ambiguous sentences, such as sentences generating scalar implicatures, scopally ambiguous sentences, sentences involving potentially ambiguous operator such as VP-conjunction. The focus will be put on how ambiguity is processed in real time, whether adults and children entertain multiple representations simoultaneously (and which ones) or whether they make a commitment towards a preferred reading, and how these processes affect real time ambiguity resolutions through eye movements.

Classes:

1. Online comprehension of implicatures in adults and children

2. Online comprehension of scope ambiguity in adults and children
