SPRING/SUMMER LONG COURSE BLAZE SEASON: To continue swimming, please register for the upcoming Blaze season that begins April 6.
All swimmers must have an active USA Swimming membership in order to participate in swim meets. This page explains what that means, how to check your status, and what to do if updates are needed.
USA Swimming is the national governing body for competitive swimming in the United States. Membership provides:
Insurance coverage for swimmers
Standardized rules and safety policies
Oversight through Safe Sport and athlete protection programs
All sanctioned swim meets require swimmers to be registered and in good standing.
In order for your swimmer to compete in any sanctioned meet:
Their USA Swimming membership must be active
Their information must be current and accurate
Membership must be valid before meet day
If a swimmer competes without a valid membership, families may be subject to fines and the swimmer may be removed from the meet.
Before each meet, the team registrar checks the membership status of all registered swimmers.
To avoid issues:
Make sure your swimmer’s membership is renewed on time
Confirm that names and birthdates match exactly
Do not wait until the week of a meet to update membership information
If your swimmer’s membership is flagged as inactive, you will be contacted and asked to update it as soon as possible.
All swimmers who want to compete in USA Swimming-sanctioned meets must have an active USA Swimming membership through Iowa Swimming Inc (IASI). This covers insurance, eligibility, and compliance with Safe Sport policies.
Who this is for:
Families new to competitive swimming
Parents whose swimmer has never held a USA Swimming membership
What to do:
Log in to your USA Swimming account.
If you don’t have one, please contact Olivia Crawford, Blaze Head Coach and Aquatics Coordinator.
Once logged in, go to “My Account” > “Members” and select your swimmer.
Click the USAS Membership tab.
Choose Register for USA Swimming, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete registration and payment.
Confirm the membership is current in your account profile.
Who this is for:
Returning swimmers whose membership has expired or is about to expire
How renewal works:
Log in to your USA Swimming account.
Go to My Account > Members.
Click on your swimmer’s name.
Under the USAS Membership tab, click Renew and follow the prompts.
Some accounts may offer a quick “Renew” button for eligible members.
Pay the annual membership fee.
Important
Renewals must be completed before meet day to maintain eligibility.
Your swimmer will be eligible to compete in USA Swimming-sanctioned meets.
Your membership status will show as Current in your account profile.
Membership expires annually, so make renewals part of your fall checklist each season.

No — only the athlete needs a USA Swimming membership for meets. Parents can create an account to manage registrations but do not need a membership unless they serve in an official or coach role.
Contact your team head coach or reach out to USA Swimming support — the hub.usaswimming.org system helps with most issues.
If you have questions about:
Membership status
Registration issues
Renewal timing
Please reach out to the coaching staff. We’re happy to help you navigate the process before it becomes urgent.
