About Science Academy
Science Academy is a science program for 4th and 5th-graders hosted by students at Bob Jones High School during the school year. The main subject areas taught are Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology, Environmental Science, and Physics. Lessons include review games, activities, and experiments. Students earn tickets (for prizes) by answering practice questions, winning review games, and completing homework. Meetings are on Fridays, usually twice a month. The program is held in-person at BJHS.
Program Details
Science Academy applications usually open in July or Early August.
The program fees are $25 and payment details will be shared with accepted students.
The program consists of about 15 lessons and will take place in-person on select Fridays at Bob Jones High School from 4:00-5:30pm.
Why Participate?
Participating in the BJHS Science Challenge and/or Science Academy will excite students about science while also preparing them to successfully compete in science competitions at the middle school and high school levels. These are great opportunities for your child to learn science outside of school and develop an interest in STEM careers.
Our instructors and volunteers are dedicated to promoting your child's success in science and we hope to do this by introducing scientific concepts in chemistry, physics, and biology at a younger age. We are very passionate about these programs, and we have found that our own early exposure to STEM has helped us succeed in these competitions and advanced high school classes. BJHS students perform extremely well in science competitions and we would like to give back to our community by providing these opportunities to all MCS students through the BJHS Science Challenge and Science Academy.
In Science Academy, we emphasize the introduction of careers in STEM and healthcare to our students. We believe that it is important for students to be exposed to a wide variety of careers and fields in STEM in order to develop their interests. We cover STEM careers ranging from electrical engineers to molecular lab specialists. Your child is sure to find something they will love!
