The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
Flip Classroom Video: The artifacts that we have worked on for this class is called a Flip Presentation representing a flipped classroom. The topic I chose correlates to Illinois Learning Standard 23. D. 4a. which states "explain how brain functions can be maintained and improved through activity." The purpose of a flipped classroom model is to shift to a learner- focused classroom model where the student is able to learn through digital resources, formulate questions, and apply the skills learned from the digital lecture in person.
The importance of this artifact is to demonstrate the ability to not only use the technology needed to make various presentations for classroom learning but the assessments to accompany them as well. Connection to Performance Indicator 5N states: uses technology to accomplish differentiated instructional objectives that enhance learning for each student. This artifact allows the student to expand on their existing knowledge.
In this artifact, we learned about how exercise and other influencing factors that improve brain function. By completing this project, it required the educators to think outside the box as to how we wanted to present the information to the students. This can be done in a variety of ways but the most utilized is the tried and true power point presentation. Similar to Microsoft word power point; I used Google Slides for the first time. As we have observed in this class, we learn most by actively doing and the more practice we have the better we will become over time.
Flipped Classroom Quiz: This artifact features a online quiz made with google forms based on the flipped classroom video I had made. These two artifacts were designed in trinity's technology course. This is a great way to reduce paper in class however not all students enjoy taking tests digitally and would prefer a paper exam or quiz. I would like to give them the option as a way to cater to their learning and test taking style.
Knowledge Indicator 5C states that the competent teacher knows how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources. Utilizing technology and a variety of tools within that category will help students to find what technology resources they like most and become more comfortable using them. I am a visual learner and I would imagine some of my students learn best that way as well.
I learned that by giving students their own autonomy through their assignments in class or for homework, this helps them feel more at ease learning material and approaching assignments to complete.
