The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
Unit Plan: This artifact shows an in depth unit plan for a 10th grade health class covering 3-5 days of material. This would be helpful in the event a full time sub were to take over for a short time. This artifact was produced in my educational psychology class.
Knowledge Indicator 3B states that the competent teacher understands how to develop short- and long-range plans, including transition plans, consistent with curriculum goals, student diversity, and learning theory. This artifact shows understanding of this standard because it encompasses a wide range of teaching components such as a classroom management plan, plans for diversity inclusion, learning environment and curriculum content shared over those 3-5 days.
While this assignment was difficult to tackle at first, I sought out some help to break things down in a way that I could understand and create a plan. I was especially pleased with how this unit plan turned out and understand its effectiveness.
Reflection on Co-Teaching: This artifact is a reflection on my co-teaching experience at stagg high school. This was produced during my student teaching experience.
Knowledge indicator 3F states that the competent teacher: understands how to co-plan with other classroom teachers, parents or guardians, paraprofessionals, school specialists, and community representatives to design learning experiences; and understands how research and data guide instructional planning, delivery, and adaptation. Working with others is a part of life but as educators we are co-planning on behalf of every student where necessary. This could be two classes at once or this could be for an IEP or 504 plan.
From this co-teaching experience at stagg high school, I learned how to work well with others and how the teachers in my department divide up their roles. I also notice who tends to take the lead and who sits back and contributes their thoughts when needed.
