"Hi everyone

I’ve been having discussions with Ian Mitchell who is Junior Warden Co-ordinator at Southampton City Council. He will be visiting us on Wednesday about the possibility of us providing some carved woodland animals which will be painted by the Junior Wardens then fixed to the outside of some planters which the probation service will be making."

If anyone would like to help with this endeavour I hope to put some support pages on this site with ideas for figures you might make.  I plan that each figure on the website will have been designed tested and prototyped to ensure that our shedders don't have to spend too long researching suitable artwork.  I'm going to kick off the page with a figure based on Shaun the Sheep (I know he's not a woodland creature)  Hopefully more to follow until the whole projects winds up in mid summer.

For figure ideas see here.

Today the shed club was visited by ladies representing the Senior Saints Foundation.  They have facilities, activities and coordination to help run useful workshops for senior Southampton Citizens.  I hope to provide more information here, but for now here is a link to their website.  https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/saints-foundation-senior-saints

Ian and Barry putting the finishing touches to the internal walls of the new shed.  We soon hope to use this for cleaner pursuits like art, reading, talking, jigsaws etc. Thanks gentlemen.

We are starting to see early signs of spring and our rustic carpenters have been busy crafting nesting boxes for birds and insects, not forgetting our excellent planters.

Yesterday we set up our stand at Bitterne Library and Graham kindly kept watch over it all day.  Thanks Graham.

Our last visit for a pub lunch at the Red Lion was successful.  In future we will use the Red Lion and aim to arrive there after the market day rush at 12:45.

23 February 2023

Humble Plumb closes its kitchen

We have moved our custom to the Red Lion and on the last W ednesday of each monthmonth.

We also had a successful Art event at the shed on 22 November when we were visited by two ladies, Katie and Sarah, who offered art tuition at the shed club to shedders who were interested.  We hope to continue this arrangement for the forseeable future.  I will soon be posting some more detail along with dates.  Note Katie and Sarah also run a free class in Swaythling - more details to follow.

29 April 2022

We now have a new sign near the main road  front entrance which says it all.

"Building stuff and making friends"

Note: STUFF (noun) - matter, material, articles or activities of a specific or indeterminate kind that are being referred to, indicated or implied. As opposed to STUFF ourselves, which is what we do, as a group, on the last Wednesday of the month at our local hostelry.

Note, just to the right of this notice is a padlocked gate which is currently opened on shed days.  It still may be possible to access our site from White's Road along the passageway down the side of the old parish hall and across the old bowling green.  This entrance too is padlocked when the shed is not open because we have had problems with vandalism resulting in youths climbing on our roof and setting fire to a pile of timber near one of the sheds.  There has also been massive, serial vandalism around the Parish Hall.  Police are now patroling with dogs.  Let's hope they get the miscreants.

See the News page for more information.

About the Shed Club

Bitterne Shed Club (BSC) is like a typical garden shed providing a place where men can make or mend things, but in the company of other men.  Group working has been shown to improve both mental and physical health, giving the opportunity to exchange knowledge and skills whilst enjoying chat and banter with other members.  Members undertake projects for the community, individuals and themselves using an increasing array of tools.

We are open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30am to 12:00 at the old bowling club,  tucked behind the Parish Hall in Whites Road, Bitterne, Southampton, SO19 7NP.  Car parking at the Parish Hall. (What3Words: blunt.crib.richer) Currently Wednesday is the main day of the week when it is pretty certain that two or more of the committee members will be present to answer any questions you may have as a prospective member.

Full Membership from 2022 is £30 per year or Associate Membership is £2 per session attended.  Visitors £2 per session.
