Required Traits
These are the foundations of the Birbber. They must remain in these constraints unless a trait over-rides them. Art is a Work in Progress!
These are the foundations of the Birbber. They must remain in these constraints unless a trait over-rides them. Art is a Work in Progress!
All Birbbers require a beak! These are natural beaks, bills and the like.
Ears must be mammalian in design.
Inside of the ears can be Luminescence (optional!)
Bird-like Hands that are scaled like birds. They can be dinosaur-like as well.
Most Birbbers have four fingers on their hands or feet, but can have at least 2 and at most 5.
Long Fluffy, Feathery Tails
They can be docked and removed with Missing Limb
This is SUPER important in their culture. You can have their mask hiding their faces forever, or design the mask as an accessory.
Masks may be attached to the Birbber by string or rope, however using lashings to cause the mask to always hide their face is culturally frowned upon and they will be scorned,
You may depict your Birbber without a mask after drawing it's reference. Birbbers without masks are treated as pariahs or as outcasts.
Birbbers glow when they are emotionally charged. The Luminescence appears in parts of the body where blood flow is close to the skin. Such as the ears, eyes, hands, tail and chest.
All the positions of Luminescence are optional except the eyes. Their luminescence is dictated by their eye color unless they have Eye-Luminescence Difference.
With Heterochromia, one eye dictates the Luminescence. With white eyes caused by Blindness the luminescence is the natural eye color of the Birbber.
Dark Luminescences do not glow, but rather ink the parts. These include any dark color, not just black!
Birbbers are based on birds so any colouration can be depicted on a Birbber! Colours can also be gradients, soft or hard but must be distinct from Pigeon or Iridescence.
Check the Species information about rules regarding Coloration.
Markings found on animals may be used, such as dun stripes, python markings, tiger stripes, rosettes, etc.
Imperfect geometric shapes may be used, for example: Rings, Zig-Zags, Heart-like markings etc.
Markings can be symetrical or asymetrical but should be shown on the reference.
These Traits do not cost anything. Feel free to add them to your Birbber at your pleasure. Common traits can be used as many times as you like, they are available to anyone!
Any beak seen on our avian friends (even fictional) can be used.
Cannot contain teeth.
Serrations on the outside of the beak are FINE!
Unwieldy Beaks are okay!
Some Birbbers may wear simple clothing.
The clothing should contain simple stitching and patterns based on pre-history clothing.
They can have pieces of metal junk on them but shouldn't be entire suits of armor
Clumps of rogue fur or feathers on the top of the Birbbers head, body, cheeks. They are stylized to be hair-like.
These do not include manes or crests. These are styled by the Birbber themselves rather than natural traits.
The world is dangerous, after all.
Scarring includes any type of damage, fire, acid.
These do not include any open wounds or exposed bone.
...Real Dangerous.
Losing a head means they're DEAD, so that's not good.
This also includes clipped ears, broken beaks, missing tails.
The entire Birbber has a shiny multicolored coat that covers the entire body.
They can be brighter or lighter than the base coat and multicolored.
Glitter is the alternative where only small tiny hairs are affected.
These are traits that are usually pretty much seen in an odd occurrence. They cost one point.
Unique designs on the tail that makes it less otter like.
It can be like a ribbon, a whip or thick.
The flared tip may be added with feathers or fur.
Manes are longer fur and feathers around the birbbers neck, head and spine.
Areas all optional!
Feathers and Fur can be long, short or natural. The rule of thumb is if the feathers or fur might cause issues with movement or body heat, it will be considered an Extension.
Can add crests and down-covered areas.
Furless and featherless, smooth snouts that are still made of keratin (the stuff beaks are made out of). They can have serrations on the outside of the mouth.
No Teeth!
Asian-styled Dragon or Cat-flish whiskers around the face.
These might also be antennas.
A maximum of six.
Must be on the head or neck.
Can be pairs or individuals.
These are talons that are exceptionally long, serrated or have a barb at the end that can be used as a weapon.
These also include inner Raptor claws.
Feathers and Fur may be longer and textured differently.
Feathers may create proto-wings on arms. These cannot be used for flying or gliding.
These are birbbers who have developed traits to give them a slight edge in their habitat, such as small webbing between their toes for swimming, smaller eyes for the underground or longer tails for scaling heights.
Skin Texture in certain spots may be changed.
Little to no fur on the Birbber.
Can be portions or the entire Birbber.
These are traits that are hard to come by on a good day. These are quite Elusive Birbbers to find!
Rather than the regular Otter tail, you can replace the tail with any form of bird tail.
This also includes Peacock Tail Feathers, for example.
Otter Tail can be still added to certain tails that are have a flat back.
Any Size or Design.
Be reasonable, or you might be asked to go to corrections.
Must be on the head area and above the shoulders.
Spines or Spikes that cover the body or a portion.
Albino Birbbers are entirely white with a light pink flesh, their eyes are a light pink however, their luminescence can be any colour.
Melanistic Birbbers are entirely black with dark-grey flesh, their eyes and Luminescence are not affected.
On Albinism/Melanism: Of course, you are more than welcome to have pure white or black Birbbers that aren't considered to be rare Albinos or Melanistic, these Birbbers must be distinctly non-albino/melanistic for example, Non-Albino White Birbbers might have blue eyes, while a Black Birbber or a might have a white marking somewhere on their bodies.
This is when a birbber has a new organ, unique adaptation or ability that allows them to thrive in the environment. They might struggle in opposing environments.
Examples include: grappling tail for tree climbing, gills and fins for waterways and huge digging claws, small eyes for the ground.
The birbbers skin texture may be changed to suit their environment.
If you're here to build your Birbber, your able to use any of the traits above. Below are legendary and unobtainable traits that cannot be used during your MYO. Feel free to peruse them at your leisure to see the traits that cannot be applied easily.
Kind Regards, Val.
These are more or less mutations considered strange and unnaturally seen.
When you Really want to be called Four Eyes
For those extra special hugs.
Includes heads, tails, body parts, etc.
Wing-like structures on arms.
Guys.. Listen.. Guys.. What if I put Wings.. on the Back of My Legs??
Where the luminescence has a colour change.
These are birbbers are super adapted, so much that they are more like elemental Birbbers, showing apart of their habitat on them. Sadly they cannot survive out of their established habitats anymore!
These are markings or traits that are impossible, meaning that they cannot be used. You get none, zip, nada.
Having 2 (or more) separate luminescences depicted on the Birbber that isn't a gradient.
No actual definition between the head and the tip of their beak, having noses.
Serrations on the outside of the beak are fine but internal teeth, saber-teeth and tusks aren't seen.
Culturally, all Birbbers have a mask, they are required to have a mask.
Your birbber may lose their mask for narrative reasons, but they must have it returned or refashioned again in the future.
Things like perfect squares, heart shapes and letters aren't commonly seen in nature.
Birbbers will sometimes have an obsession to fly, but body plans always deny them.
These are exceptionally long feathers on the arms or feet that enable the Birbber to fly.
