Edit a route

Here are the main functions you can use when editing a route:

to create New Way Point, New Route and New Track

Rename a Route

To rename a route, you need to:

!! Basecamp is checking if the new name is not already existing in 'My Collection'

Remove/Delete a Route

You can remove or delete a Route. The difference is :

Remove: You can only remove a Route from a List (not from My Collection). In that case, the Route will not appear from that list but the Route is not deleted and will still appear in 'My Collection' and in the 'Unlisted data' folder.
Delete: You can delete a Route from anywhere. In that case, the Route does not exist anymore in 'My Collection' neither appears in any list.

To remove or delete a route:

Select a Route
Right-Click and select 'Remove from ....' or Delete
- In case of Remove, you will not get any notification. Keep in mind that the route still exists in 'My Collection'
- In case of Delete, you will get a warning saying 'Items will be deleted from ALL lists'. If you confirm, the Route will be permanently deleted.

!! In cas of mistake, you can click on Ctrl-Z or on the 'Undo' button. The deleted item will be restored.

Change part of a Route

There are many reasons to change an existing route:

It is recommended when you change an existing route to duplicate the existing route and change the copy

Here is an example of an original Route (on the left in red) that is changed (on the right in green)

you can download a file ('change route.gpx') from here that contains those 2 routes and use them to practice.

To change the original route, some points need to be moved to another place.

The points to be moved are highlighted on the picture beside.

Add Way Points to a route

There are many reasons to add Way Points to an existing route:

It is recommended when you change an existing route to duplicate the existing route and change the copy

To change the original route, some points first need to be removed.

The points to be removed are highlighted on the picture beside.

To remove the points:

Select the route
Select the 'Erase' tool
Move the eraser on the way point to be removed. The way point is replaced with a cross. Click to delete the way point.
The route is recalculated

To add new points:

Select the route
Select the 'Insert' tool
Move the pencil on the segment you want to change. A thick straight line appears. Left click. The thick line is replaced with a thin line.
Click to add new way points (to go via St-Bonnet-Laval, Freycenet, Chaussenille)
The route is recalculated
