Development of a scoping review protocol : Section 11.2 of the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis, which explains how to write the protocol.
Preliminary scoping search
A preliminary search will be undertaken to find key validation articles that will be used to determine if the search protocols are producing all relevant literature. (Kumpulainen, 2022)
Use Litmaps to use seed articles to branch into key literature
Compile list of presence and VR related keywords (Kumpulainen, 2022)
Explore which databases produce the broadest range of representative literature available on this topic.
Determine which databases are able to export article metadata that enables sufficient analysis of geographical, institutional, author name, etc.
Search for available meta-analysis, systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and bibliometric reviews.
Search for papers where the title implies a consideration of presence in VR as the purpose of the study.
Gather articles that research the concept of presence but exclude VR. These will form an interesting and informative extension of the paper into other domains.
Eligibility criteria (inclusion/exclusion)
We are gathering sentiments, definitions, and applications not outcomes therefore we can include 4 formats
Book (chapters)
Peer reviewed journals
Conference papers
Proceedings
Theses
Exclude the following
Reviews
Letters
Notes
Publications in languages other than English
Screening process
Remove duplicates
Data normalisation: Standardise data entry to eliminate inconsistencies, minimise redundancies, and minimise anomalies.
Exclude : exclusion criteria yet to be determined.
Critical appraisal process (optional -not typical)
Determine the extent to which the search has unearthed literature that represents all attainable research that is available for analysis.
