Tutoring is normally held from 5-7 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the second floor lounge at the Ready Center. Before coming to tutoring, text your Career Planner to confirm that tutoring is still on as scheduled for the night.
We can help you with anything related to college whether that be applying to scholarships and FAFSA, applying to college, or applying to one of our programs (CNA, CMA, IT) through Herzing, we have you covered!

Scholarships
We have created an excel sheet with Program and University specific scholarships. we will be add more to this sheet as time goes on. You can find this spreadsheet here.
Federal Student Aid/FAFSA
FAFSA is the name of the form that is filled out to get federal student aid. Federal student aid comes in the forms of grant, work-study, and loans. When you submit the FAFSA form, you will know how much federal student aid you are eligible for to use towards college whether its through loans, grants or work-study. Go to studentaid.gov to learn more and apply for financial aid.
Monthly we will have guest speakers from various career paths come in to talk about their job. Check the calendar on the home page to see if there are any Career Explorations this month that seem interesting to you. If you attend one of these sessions, you will receive a $25 stipend.
You must be 16+ to participate in any of the Occupational Skills Trainings. Upon completion of any of our Occupational Skills Trainings, you will receive a $100 stipend. If you are interested in signing up for one of the trainings listed below, contact your Career Planner, Sammy.
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
BGC has a partnership with Herzing University to provide a month-long training to become a CNA. During the school year, this will consist of some weeknight classes, a few weekend days, and coursework that is done outside of the classroom. Clinicals are done at Ovation Senior Living Communities, and we provide you with scrubs for this and to keep for your future career as a CNA. After you are finished with the course, you will have to take a written test and a clinical skills evaluation (we fund for you to take both).

MOA - Certified Medical Assistant Medical Office Assistant
BGC has a partnership with Herzing University to provide an entirely online 7 week course to become a MOA. After finishing the course, you will take the MOA test to be certified to practice as a CMA/MOA (we will fund for this). Completion of this course will also provide you with 6 college credits.

Culinary Arts
BGC has a partnership with Little Bakers Association to provide a 5 week course to earn the ServSafe Certification. In this course, you will learn a variety of kitchen basics.

Childcare
BGC has a partnership with Child Care Matters Network. In this certification program you will be able to enter the childcare workforce. Earning credentials in Early Childhood Education and School Age Care. Success in this program will land you a place to work in one of our BG clubs around the city as an intern making $15 an hour.

IT
BGC has a partnership with Herzing University to provide an entirely online 40 week course in Information Technology (IT). This challenging certification will earn you 24 college credits.
BGC B!ke
BGC B!ke is a 6 month long paid mechanic training program, that results in a bike mechanic certification upon completion of the program. This program has 3 phases:
Phase 1: Learning bike shop practices
Phase 2: Working with Dream Bikes as part time mechanics and associates
Phase 3: Working with Bublr bikes as mechanics
If you enjoy the work, you can go on to participate in the MATC Drive program where you can continue to pursue an automotive certification.
Pharmacy Tech
Program: Jumpstart! to Pharmacy is a series of workshops designed in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee and the Southwest Milwaukee Consortium for high school juniors and seniors taught by Concordia University Wisconsin School of Pharmacy (CUWSOP) faculty and students. These workshops provide an opportunity for students to improve their understanding of medicine and gain practical skills in medication management relevant to careers in pharmacy or healthcare generally (see goals below).
Participants will have an increased understanding of…
• pathways for healthcare careers with a focus on medication therapy,
• careers in pharmacy: technicians and pharmacists, and
• skill development for medical and pharmacy/pharmaceutical labs.
Rise Up Retail Training Certification
RISE Up is a training program created by the NRF Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the National Retail Federation. It teaches job-readiness and retail skills and gives participants an industry-recognized credential they can put on a resume. Employers like Walmart, Macy's, The Home Depot, and Nordstrom helped develop the curriculum so the skills match what employers want.
The certification teaches workplace and retail skills such as:
Customer service
Sales techniques
Communication with customers
Workplace professionalism
Inventory and supply chain basics
Problem-solving and teamwork
Job readiness (interviews, workplace behavior)
Barber and Cosmetology
Teach foundational and intermediate skills in barbering and cosmetology.
Build self-confidence, discipline, and professional communication skills.
Provide hands-on experience using proper tools and sanitation protocols to demonstrate industry standards.
Encourage career readiness, entrepreneurship, and small business development.
Connect youth and young adults to mentors, local barbershops, salons, and other service industry partners.
Prepare students for certification, apprenticeships, or entry-level work opportunities.
GET A JUMP START IN BUSINESS! Join BGC MKE for a weeklong entrepreneurship training. With a professor of economics, from Rutgers University. To earn a chance to compete on an international stage! Teens will learn many skills. Such as how to build a business plan, a team, create mock products, and present it in front of a panel of judges—just like Shark Tank! The Entrepreneurial competition will be taking place at the BGCGM Ready Center from July 22nd to July 26th from 9:30-2:30pm. There will be a $50 gift card given to every participant and a grand prize for the winners of the week. Click here to apply to participate. Spots are limited!!!!
We provide our students with Ubers and Bus Passes for transportation assistance. If you need an uber called for you, text your career planner the day of and let her know where you will be and when to call it.
The BGC has a partnership with Wellpoint Community Clinics to provide youth with counseling/therapy if they choose. If you are interested in therapy at any point, contact your Career Planner and she will give you the necessary paperwork to start.
Job Readiness Training or JRT is offered monthly to prepare you for the workforce. These trainings normally consist of how to build a resume, how to interview, and how to apply for a job. If you complete 3 job readiness trainings, you will receive a $100 stipend. If you are interested in participating in a JRT, check the calendar on the home page and sign up for any coming up.
Monthly to every few months we will have someone come in to talk about financial literacy. The topics in this range from credit scores, loans, credit cards, budgeting and more. Upcoming financial literacy will be shown on the calendar on the home page if you are interested in signing up for a session. Upon completion of a session, you will receive a $50 stipend.

For Social Emotional Development Trainings, BGC provides online modules through EverFi as well as in-person trainings that you can find on the calendar on the home page.

Complete the two modules - these will take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour each
Once completed, notify your Career Planner and they will put in a check request for your $50 stipend.
