Elementary school Janko Leskovar is located in the town of Pregrada and consists of the main school and 5 district schools in the villages around the town. The school's mission is to create a stimulating environment for learning and teaching content relevant to the future of students, with the aim of their active and successful participation in work, community development and environmental preservation.
The school strives to create optimal conditions for the complete development of students and takes into account the interests and diversity and individual needs of each child, therefore the school organizes various extracurricular activities and implements numerous projects in different areas.
Since 2004, the school has had the status of an International Eco School and through the eco-school program promotes education for environmental protection and sustainable development. A variety of projects are carried out as part of which generations of school students are educated in the importance of environmental protection, participate in contests and activities such as collecting paper, glass, batteries and tetrapacks. From 2019 we are implementing the No-Plastics project, in which the city of Pregrada also joined, and the goal is to stop using single-use plastics at school and in the local community. Members of the school student council had the idea of educating students, parents and city residents to recycle and reuse all types of materials that we create as waste at school, at home and in the local community, which encouraged us to create this project.
Project coordinator - nature and biology teacher Nikolina Ljubić is the head of the Eco-School and carries out a series of activities in the field of ecology.
