If there's one big thing to know about my, it's that I like learning and being challenged. I enjoy taking up new skills, and continuing to improve one of my favorite skills: playing piano. Besides learning new skills, I like learning about new concepts. This is why I'm at IU Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) studying biology. My end goal is to attend medical school and become a cardiologist or nephrologist. I have this goal because I've had to overcome a few medical challenges in my life, and I've always been interested in the role my doctors have played in my health, and I hope to have patients of my own that I can help someday. Not only that, I'm very interested in the way the cardiac and renal systems work. Because of my interest in the medical field, I have a large drive to learn more about the basic sciences and explore many different leadership, shadowing, and commmunity service activities that may help prepare me for the medical field.
I am a self-motivated individual. During Covid, I was a virutal student from home while many of my peers returned to school in-person. Because most of the students were back in-person, most teachers weren't highly focused on reminding virutal students to complete everything. I had to be in charge of my own schedule and ensuring I was getting homework done and completing an adequate amount of studying. This paid off when it came time for my senior year of high school. I found myself serving as the president of multiple clubs and taking some of the most challenging classes I had taken in high school. I believe my ability to organize my schedule effectively, focus on completing multiple tasks at once, and communicate with other students made me senior year easier and prepared me for a future in college and a challenging career field. I also had wonderful teachers that offered me great advise when it came to executing events and leading other students.
I chose IU Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) because of the wide variety of service-minded extracurriculars, the early research opportunities, and the ability to volunteer or shadow at multiple nearby hospitals. I have recently joined 4 clubs on campus, and I hope to become very involved with them as I progress in my undergraduate career. By the end of this year, I would like to have found several doctors I can shadow and gain insights about the medical field from. Looking into the future, I aim to have a strong undergraduate background that will prepare me well for a medical school education.
