One of my favorite days of the semester is when I explain why students should probably run screaming the other direction. Look, I work hard at my job, but I don't deserve the scores I get on rate my professors. Why are they so great then? Two reasons. First, because students at BYU - Idaho are just nice. People are kind and generous. Second, because students quickly decide if my class is a bad match--in part because I encourage them to.
I'm not everyone's cup of (herbal) tea. My class is a lot of work, I have a quirky sense of humor, and I demand a lot--and if that's not for you, I totally get it. My first week or two is me explaining how my class will work so you can make an informed decision. Part of that process is reading mean tweets--some of my favorite comments from Rate my Professors.
By the way, what is this "BroPa" thing about?
When I lived in Maryland, I taught early morning seminary--it's a little like religious ed for high schoolers. And one kids thought "BroCini" sounded cool, and another went "no no! It's BroPa!" And it stuck.
And I've been BroPa ever since.
