Quick Facts
In the early 1900's Frs. Hilary and Edmund Jurica, O.S.B. began to assemble a teaching collection for their students to learn from. They actively collected and processed specimens for decades.
Many early specimens came from the Field Museum and the Chicago Academy of Sciences and date to the mid- to late-1800's.
When Scholl Hall was built in 1971 the museum was established and allowed the public to see this unique collection for the first time. The museum moved to Birck Hall in 2000.
November 18, 2021 was the 50th anniversary of the museum's dedication!

responsible use of creation, culture and the arts
Stewardship begins by recognizing that all we have is a gift from God. Therefore, we cannot destroy, misuse, or be selfish with those gifts. Those gifts were given to us to glorify God, sustain ourselves, and care for others. "Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience." Laudato Si, 217 Frs. Jurica, Jurica, and Suchy believed that nature was here to be explored, understood, and preserved. What can you do today as a steward of creation?
