Bruin Day 2018

Prasith Wijeweera - October 20th, 2018

Six tornados ravaged the Ottawa region on September 21st. Most only experienced a small power outage, but some unlucky residents of Dunrobin lost everything. Still, Bell Student’s Council worked tirelessly with a dozen volunteers to finish the Bruin Day Raffle in support of the tornado relief. The ticket sales were lacklustre at first, but a joint effort between the Student Council and volunteers boosted sales. On Wednesday, October 5th around $100 was collected. But by Bruin Day on the 9th, a grand total of $300 was raised for the tornado relief. Event organizers were proud to see the Bruin community wearing red, white and black rallying to support fellow citizens in need. They especially thank all volunteers for hall canvasing, involvement teacher support, and an amazing locker display in the grade 11 hall. The raffle had over $1400 worth of prizes, but the crowd favourite was the guitar donated generously by Long & McQuade. One student liked that the selection of the prize had "something for everyone" to bid on from local restaurant vouchers, food, beauty products and much more! As the winners and money raised sum were announced a few lucky individuals jumped with glee, but for the school’s spirit heads the satisfaction was all in helping those affected by the tornado.
