Priority Assignments:

  1. Read, work to complete your book
  2. If you are done your book, work on the missing assignments from the last few weeks.

English Assignment, Week of 5/18/20:

A Day, Monday:

  1. Read 30-40 Minutes
  2. Complete Active Reading Log #4 in Class Notebook or in a word doc (should only take about 5 minutes to complete)

Active Reading Log #4:

  1. The date, Reading Log #
  2. What page you are on in your book currently or minutes into your book. When do you predict you will finish your book? Or are you already done?

A Day, Thursday:

  1. Read (if you are still working on your book)
  2. Choose 1 creative assignment to complete from the list below or pitch something else!
    1. Create a movie poster based on your book. Who would star in the film? Who would direct? Include names of stars (characters), director (author), release date (publication date)
    2. Choose an interesting character from your book. Think of his/her likes and dislikes. Then think of a gift you would like to give him/her. Describe or illustrate the gift. Design a greeting card to go along with the gift in which you explain why you gave the gift.
    3. Make a playlist for your book. Include a minimum of 10 songs along with an explanation for each song choice

IRP Active Reading Log Assignment, Week of 5/11/20:

A Day, Monday: Read/listen to your book for 40 Minutes. Take a break after the first 20 minutes then continue to complete the reading of your novel for today.

A Day, Thursday: Complete the active reading log assignment below in a word doc OR Class Notebook.

Active Reading Log #3,For each entry, record:

i. The date, Reading Log #

ii. What page you are on in your book currently or minutes into your book.

iii. If you met the author or a character from your book, what 3 questions would you most like to ask them? Answer the questions in the form of a newspaper interview. Use examples from the book and from independent research to support the answers. Include at least 2 quotes from the text.

English 9 Agenda (IRP):

MONDAY: Read 45 Minutes total today. Break up your reading after the first 15-20 minutes. Comment on the post in Microsoft Teams if you need help or have questions.

THURSDAY: Task 1:Read 10 Minutes. Task 2: Create an A-Z List based on your book.

  • Creative Writing Prompt: At the start of the story we read about Max's experiences at daycare, from his point of view. Write two paragraphs about daycare from the perspective of Freak.

Week of December 12/9 - 12/13:

  • Complete Unit 1, The Experiment
  • Turn in all packets
  • Review Vocabulary for Unit
  • Choose ONE of these writing prompts to respond to.. 2-3 paragraphs:
    • Does social media represent individuals authentically? Explain with examples.
    • If a wizard could tell you anything about your future, what would you most like to know?
    • Which classmate would be the best to lead us through a zombie apocalypse? Why?

Week of December 12/2-12/6:

  • Star 360 testing on - TUESDAY
  • Letter to our Senior Self - example from class in resources/handouts area... DUE 12/5
  • Begin Unit 1 in textbook, The Experiment

Mon & Wed - Week of 11/25:

  • Summary writing - green sheet located in classroom
  • Pink grammar packet! Both are graded assignments
  • 11/25: Writing Prompt:
    • Write an acrostic poem for one of these words: TURKEY, THANKSGIVING, GRATEFUL, FAMILY.
  • Review writing summary, grammar packet and R & J assessment
  • Test Corrections available for points back!!! Turn in by 12/3
