Capitol Bee CARE is a sister organization to Bee CARE Institute.
founded on the same principals and dedicated to the same ideals Capitol Bee CARE LLC provides local bees to local beekeepers & beekeeper support services. Capitol Bee CARE is offering a 20% discount on nucleus colonies to first year students as a way to help get you started.
What kind of bees are they? They are locally adapted, genetically diverse honey bees.
Since 2006 Capitol Bee CARE has been dedicated to identifying, isolating, and propagating characteristics that make our honey bees especially well suited to thrive, overwinter and produce in the Mid-Atlantic region.
When will I get my bees?
We raise our queens locally from local stock. Queen rearing is a weather dependent activity, however we project that our first run nucs (ordered before April 15) will be ready near mid-May. Second run nucs will be available in early June.
What will I get?
Our standard five frame nuc typically includes one mated and accepted queen, two frames with bees, brood, larvae, and eggs one honey frame, one pollen frame and a mixed frame for expansion. We use plastic foundation because it transports better and is easier for new beekeepers to handle. If you plan to keep your bees on wax foundation it is easy to cycle the starter frames out of your hive. (Used frames make swarm catchers.)
