I'm Bret. I was born and raised in Utah. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, swimming, golfing (both disk golf and golf golf), and spending time with friends. My hobbies change like the weather thanks to my ADHD, which I genuinely enjoy. Right now I'm getting into 3D modeling to go with my interest in 3D printing.
Before my time at ASU Online, I was a computer science major at Salt Lake Community College. I received my Associates degree in CSIS and during that time I learned I truly did not enjoy programming. While trying to figure out where to aim my education next, I was offered a position as an entry level Technical Writer. I enjoyed the work enough that I began my hunt for education to further that position, finding ASU's Technical Communications program in the process.
I am currently a Regulatory Affairs Specialist at a medical device manufacturer. I have worked in medical device manufacturing for the last 12 years. Starting as an entry level production operator, I found ways to improve processing time and worked my way into a position as a manufacturing technician for a Manufacturing Engineering group. Within this group I learned about the processes of taking an R&D project and turning it into an efficient manufacturable process. Within this group I later took on a role as a Technical Writer, creating work instructions and writing engineering validation documents. My work in this field gave me opportunities to collaborate with Regulatory Affairs and led me to the position I'm in now. When people ask why I chose Regulatory Affairs, I always say the same thing, "I'm as close to becoming the lawyer my parents wanted me to be without needing all that pesky education."
