International Classrooms On Line sees blog posts as authored information packages (AIPs), which are pieces of bite size knowledge communicated between schools for classes or individuals to assemble as a larger ‘knowledge meal’.
Each AIP consists of 5 elements. For example, using online material from a Grimsby school;
Element 1 is a subject: Why were Grimsby docks developed?
Element 2 is a picture: The dock tower
Element 3 is a description of the picture
The Dock Tower completed in 1851 was the latest development pf hydrolic powers. It was built to provide water pressure to power the hydraulic machinery (for cranes, lock gates and sluices) at the Docks. The tower was built to carry a tank 200 feet (61 m) above the ground with a direct feed into the machinery. Small pumps topped up the tank as the hydraulic machinery drew off water.
Element 4 is the picture in a wider context
The arrival of the railway in 1848 made it easier to transport goods too and from the port to markets and farms. Coal mined in the South Yorkshire coalfields was brought by rail and exported through Grimsby. Rail links direct to London and the Billingsgate Fish Market allowed for fresh "Grimsby Fish" to gain a nationwide reputation.
Element 5 is a web address to more information…
A blogger collective is a group of learners committed to collaborative learning focused on:
Resource sharing
Student participation
Group projects
Student collaboration - interaction
An enriched classroom environment
A wider school community impact
The educational aim is to promote the use of social media in the curriculum by engaging young people in blogger collectives to evaluate the local school/community heritage and their futures in a carbon free world.
For it to be sustainable, people join the collective simply by signing up to a free Google Blogger account. Then blogs with posts can be added to it. The web address of the account holder is sent to bitesizebloggercollective@gmail.com where it will be added to rhe ICE directory in the project hub.
