The Championship
The championship is the première 10 pin bowling competition for the Brigade and will run all day from 9.30am.
In the Main Championship, the champion is decided after 3 rounds of random league bowling, (finishing around 3pm) followed by 3 knockout stages (to approximately 7.00pm for the finalists).
A Secondary Comp (the Alley) now exists for 2nd Teams and Younger 1st Teams. (See RULES) This has been a great success since its introduction in 2004 & many teams comment on how much their younger teams enjoy the day. For some they are able to compete on equal terms, whilst others win some silverware that was quite unexpected.
The Teams
Teams are allowed from any BB Company, including Amicus Groups within the United Kingdom and Eire & BB-GA (Girls' Association) Groups.
A team will consist of 3 Boys or Girls of Company/Senior section age.
Major change from 2019.
The Upper Age limit for the Main Championships is to be reduced to Top BB age of 18 (School Year 13)
Why Teams Enter
We did a survey a few years back to analyse the make up of the teams and the results were most interesting
Some companies enter....
to take part. They have no intention of winning. They enter year upon year, often knowing that they will not get too far.
to meet up with friends. They come every year and enjoy the friendship that the event creates
to be part of the BIG BB Event. Its a fantastic sight and encouragement to all to see all the lanes booked out and for the boys/girls to realise and see that they are part of a much larger organisation than just there local church
to win. And when that group of boys have gone, they no longer enter
to reward. A number of teams have operated a points system in their companies (for attendance, inspection, games, fund-raising, recruiting, etc) and have brought along the top 3 point scorers
to provide an activity for their members that is less sporty than other competitions
If you don't fall into any of the above - let me know your reason for attending - it would be interesting to know
