What do you notice?
What may be hazards you see if the train stops?
Would you feel safe driving so close to a moving train?
Did someone do something dangerous in these videos and what was it?
This is one example of a dangerous area where people and trains meet. They call it street running. What is happening here is that main line is running through the main street in town. Notice how cars are parked on the street and no enclosures or gates are protecting people. While the speed of the train is reduced, it still takes a considerable distance to stop. This train is about two miles long with a locomotive in the middle. It represents a mixed freight train.
A main street in town is not the only area where street running occurs. Street running also occurs in industrial areas. You need to pay attention to active switching going on. An approaching locomotive might be in your rear view mirror. The RAILROAD always has the RIGHT OF WAY.
