Since 2003 an educator from one of Barrington's schools has received school-wide recognition and a personal check.
On May 19, 2026, the Excellence in Education Award was presented to Rick Pine. For 29 years, Rick Pine has exemplified what it means to be an outstanding educator. As a fourth-grade teacher, he has built a reputation for setting high expectations while creating a classroom environment where every student feels supported, respected, and capable of success. Rick’s students leave his classroom prepared not only academically, but also socially and emotionally for the challenges of middle school and beyond.
Colleagues describe Rick as patient, professional, approachable, and deeply committed to both his students and his school community. Parents praise his ability to meet students where they are, helping them grow into confident, organized, and independent learners. Whether mentoring fellow teachers, collaborating with families, or guiding students with empathy and consistency, Rick brings heart, wisdom, and dedication to all that he does. His impact can be seen in the success of his students and in the respect and admiration of those fortunate enough to work alongside him.
On January 19th, 2021, we delivered 42 books to BMS, BES, and the ECLC to honor the recipients of the 2019-2020 Excellence in Education (awarded all teachers and staff in the Barrington schools to recognize their extraordinary efforts in the spring of 2020). Classroom teachers were invited to select a book about social justice, diverse perspectives, and inclusion; books were also presented to the school libraries to honor the staff. Twelve generous community members joined BSF to acquire the books, making this a community collaboration to thank our town's amazing educators.
