The Housing Agreement (which students sign when submitting the Intent Form) is an academic year-long commitment to living in campus housing.
Students who later need to cancel housing for the Fall semester will submit the Housing Cancellation Form. This includes the following categories:
Live off-campus
Transfer to another school
Take a leave of absence
Study abroad for Fall
Students must cancel by Thursday, May 7, 2026, to avoid a cancellation fee.
There is a different cancellation timeline for students who need to cancel Spring housing (including students who graduate mid-year or study abroad for the Spring)
The 2026-27 Cancellation Policy and fee schedule will be posted at barnard.edu/reslife/cancellations by the end of Spring Break.
If you're thinking about living off-campus, we strongly encourage you to discuss your individual circumstances with the Financial Aid office before finalizing your decision, as changing to commuter status may affect the amount of financial aid you are eligible for and/or receive.
Students who move off-campus give up their guarantee of campus housing for the future and will no longer be eligible for the Room Selection process.
All selections in Room Selection are FINAL. After students pick a space, it is not possible to change it outside of the established Post-Lottery Room Change / Direct Swap request processes (below).
Students may request Post-Lottery 1-for-1 Direct Swaps.
Only students with 400 points may request a Post-Lottery Room Change.
Students may also apply for the Fall Room Change Request Process (i.e. after classes start for the Fall).
Information about summer housing will be posted at http://barnard.edu/reslife/summer-housing when available.
