The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.

Education Psychology Assessment
In my educational psychology class, I had to create a formal assessment based on our textbook chapter 15. Chapter 15 was all about the types of assessments which I learned to d the many types of assessment. I used this assessment to measure a group of "student" (family and friends). Then I collected data and decided that not all the students met the desired objective. Making and analyzing this assessment was practicing Performance level 7J “uses assessment results to determine student performance levels, identify learning targets, select appropriate research-based instructional strategies, and implement instruction to enhance learning outcomes' ' (Performance level 7J). Using this assessment help me to determine if student met the objective or not. The objective of this assessment was for students to be able to match the characteristics of each assessment with the right assessment given a question about them. The class average was 79% which is bad but I would like students to have better understanding. After viewing my data, I concluded that my student needed a review. These concepts are important for students to know. How I plan to review is, the day I hand the assessments back, as a class can go over the answers and talk about why. This can help students to review and remember the correct assessments to use for the right data and reasons (test topic).
I understand this assessment has limitation and might be easier for some students more then other, as knowledge indicator 7A states "understands the purposes, characteristics, and limitations of different types of assessments, including standardized assessments, universal screening, curriculum-based assessment, and progress monitoring tools. However this assessment serves as a good formative progress monitor tool for me to modify my instruction to help students grow in understanding.
After reviewing I will ask for questions and answer them for the whole class. Then because some students still need some support in learning I think a review worksheet would benefit them to complete and study from. So I will give a review worksheet out to be done in groups of 2 or 3. This way students can review but also reinforce their learning with each other. Where they complete this I will walk around the room and offer guidance and answer questions to help them learn. Then at the start of the next lesson I will bring up these concepts so they will have to remember them to build off of past learning. I met the standard by reaching this conclusion because the standard states "The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student" (Standard 7). I made the decision that my students need to have more review to learn the material and use it for the future.
Doing this assignment helped me prepare for my future teaching because I learned how to create a thought out assessment, collect and interpret data which helped me to understand how my students learned, then plan further to benefit their learning. This was practice 7K and 7O by appropriately and effecting conducting assessments to evaluate as well as monitor different students' progress. I did this for the whole class by doing the average and deciding to review everything but also by writing about focus students in my analysis and why they both would benefit from review. Overall this assignment has taught me how to, as 7J and 7K say, appropriately use and evaluate assessment, as well as interpret select strategies by using data to benefit students' learning.
Student Assessment Project Writing Methods
In Writing Methods I had to assess a student on writing. In the assessment I had to record data, set goals based on the writing process and make recommendations to help better my student’s writing. This was a lot of collecting data and analyzing her score to help make recommendations. This follows knowledge indicator 7B “understands that assessment is a means of evaluating how students learn and what they know and are able to do in order to meet the Illinois Learning Standards” (IL knowledge indicator 7B). In the case of this assessment project I evaluated my student on her abilities and how she can meet the standards.
Then I set goals to help her reach the standards. One of these goals was to “Be able to build words with magic e”. Setting these goals fits with Performance indicator 7J “uses assessment results to determine student performance levels, identify learning targets, select appropriate research-based instructional strategies, and implement instruction to enhance learning outcomes' ' (IL performance indicator 7J). Collecting and Interpreting data to then drive instruction is a huge part of teaching for both the whole class and individual needs. As a teacher I hope to use evidence to drive instruction.
