Adverbial Phrases
Definition:
An adverbial phrase is simply a group of two or more words that functions as an adverb in a sentence. Just as an adverb can modify a verb, adjective, or another adverb, an adverb phrase of more than one word can further describe a verb, adverb, or adjective.
A phrase is two or more words that do not contain the subject-verb pair necessary to form a clause. Phrases can be very short or quite long. So, an adverbial phrase is the term for two or more words which play the role of an adverb.
Type of Adverbial Phrase
Manner : with a rolling pin, e.g: Mother flats the dough with a rolling pin.
Place : next door, e.g: The man who lives next door is our new neighbor.
Time : before Tuesday, e.g: The students should submit their work before Tuesday.
Frequency: every week, e.g: Arman visits his grandma every week.
Purpose : for his sister, to buy a laptop computer, e.g: Denny bought a dress for his sister.
Leo saves his pocket money to buy a laptop computer.
