Level 116 is a cave system or cavern with little to no illumination, making certain locations a lot darker and thus making it much more difficult to view your surroundings. Throughout the level, one may begin to notice the cave space shrinking, making breathing space the number one priority for wanderers when first arriving in this level. The caverns also have ravines and cliffsides, making the place much more dangerous with the possibility of falling and plummeting to the ground.
In Level 116, rocks, crystals, and minerals are quite common. These include stalagamites, stalactites, mirabilite, epsomite, flowstone, and more. These stones and rocks are found early in the level as opposed to later, as the more you delve deeper into the caverns, the less they will appear. They can be big or small, but they are usually smaller to fit the enclosed spaces. In rare cases, one might even find limestone, usually with its own writing of a certain level's history, specifically those in the main nine, usually of Level 6, Level 7, or Level 8.
One may begin to notice the lack of any other survivors in the level. Although this is notable on almost every level you encounter, the caverns have an isolating effect on wanderers, making them the only ones to travel these caves. This can be detrimental to some wanderers, but luckily, there are no entities in the level, making fear and loneliness the only enemies.
The temperature when you are first introduced to the level is warm, but as you progress, it begins to shift into the latter. The temperature usually drops the more claustrophobic and darker the place is, sometimes covered with heaps of snow and pieces of ice. In this area, you could see icicles forming from the edges of the cave, requiring a blunt object to break them.

Level 116 also has deep, dark sections. These sections are commonly accompanied by huge gaps and ravines, making anything that falls down a straight death sentence. This is where most of the environmental hazards come from. In this area, you may notice red liquid falling from the ceiling. This is usually Liquid Pain, so it is best not to touch it, but if you get some on you, it does not pose an immediate hazard. Strangely, the Liquid Pain here is a lot safer than its original, yet it still holds the same properties, such as damaging entities, stunning them, or gathering them for other purposes.
Strangely, this part is usually silent. On some occasions, you may hear water dripping or the above, which are red liquids, but other than that, not much can be heard except your breath and voice. This can mess with some wanderers enough to make them feel lonely or enervated, which is exacerbated by tired climbing and crawling throughout the cave. Wanderers who have claustrophobia may have difficulty trekking through the deeper darkness at Level 116.
If you manage to get down to the bottom of one of the nearby cliffs and ravines on Level 116, you might hear flowing water. There are rivers and, on rare occasions, a giant underwater part of the level, which, although it works just as expected, has safe-to-drink water, making this one of the only few places to find resources or substances other than the drops of Liquid Pain in the ceiling of the caverns.
The little light and illumination can mess up your vision, so it is important to gather batteries, a flashlight, or other related objects to navigate your way through the deep darkness. Alternatively, you could use some crystals that emit light throughout the level. One may also use the brightness of Luvidium Crystals, something commonly found in Level 117. The presence of these usually leads wanderers to Level 117 or close, which is a lot safer than the narrow and dark caves of Level 116. This is one of the most common exits.

Once a wanderer is able to evade and navigate their way deeper into the cave, they will be awarded a temporary safe zone at this level. Level 116's safe zone is covered up by multiple layers of cavern walls, stone, and other materials, making this journey rough. This part of the level is quite big, containing a small pond with fish, which is one of the only food sources in the level.
This area also has mushrooms, although most are poisonous and unsafe to consume. How these mushrooms grow with no sort of life to cling to is unknown, but they appear more like bloodied or damaged parts of rocks, indicating the survivors that once were there were other wanderers. These things grow mainly on human excrement, which is not quite unusual.
There are many dark spaces, which usually lead back to Level 116's original zones. If a pond were to be deep enough, this may lead to one of the exits being Level 7. Some have even suspected Level 116 of being a part of Level 8 that has been cast away by the tides and water of Level 7. This is assumed to be the history of Level 116, with one limestone as proof that was found in this level.

In Level 116, you are with nobody. Due to the isolating effects of this level, it is impossible for wanderers to create small colonies, which is also exacerbated by limited resources and minimal space. As stated before, due to the isolating effects, lifeforms other than simple, perishable bacteria cannot be detected.
Level 8: In Level 8, narrow caves may suddenly lead one to Level 116, though this is quite uncommon.
Level 7: Inside the house on this level, a rare flooded wood basement may lead you to Level 116.
Level 47: Perhaps a hole in the wall would lead to Level 116?
Level 8.2: The darker and less xanthous the level gets, the more likely you are to appear in this level.
Level 115: A door made out of watered-down snow and rocks will lead to this level. This works vice-versa.
Level 49: If you end up lucky and survive falling through one of the ravines or gaps in the caverns of Level 116, it is quite likely that you will end up here.
Level 50: Sewage grates may lead to the highway of this level. These grates appear near sewage pipes, so they consistently appear closer to Level 49 entrances, which are the ravines and gaps in the level.
Level 1.1: If you find a small vent or door, you will most likely end up in Level 1.1.
Level 117: Following the trail of Luvidium Crystals leads to this level.
Level 7: To go to Level 7, you must find a deep enough pool to swim in. After that, attempt to no-clip several times, and you will appear back in the Level 7 house.
