Some people have asked about the ancestor they are remembering as they take a trek over part of the pioneer trail. Listed below are some links to resources that may help make this activity more meaningful.
The links below go to websites and activities that focus on the Pioneer exodus from Illinois to Salt Lake Valley during the 1800s. However there are many modern pioneers in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The conversion stories of today's converts are just as inspiring. In some cases the people involved have gone through trials that were just as severe as those of the pioneers of the 1800s. Their stories also need to be told and remembered so that their descendants know to honor these pioneers who gave so much that their children and grandchildren might have the gospel in their lives, too.
Ask parents and grandparents to tell you these stories, and record them in the Memories section of FamilySearch, as well as take them on trek.
There is a searchable database of the pioneers who came to Salt Lake Valley by wagon train, and in which wagon company they traveled.
On that same site there is a 6 minute video entitled: Lessons from the Latter-day Saint Pioneer Trek.
