As a result of my field study experience, I was able to expand greatly in practice on my verbal and written communication skills via presentation, interviews, in-person meetings and emails. Additionally, time working online to develop survey questions and to prepare for key informant interviews allowed me to learn more about these community partners which in turn aided my interpersonal skills that made extrapolating data in interviews easier with increased comfortability in social spaces and meetings also focusing my ability to build relationships. Two of the interviews I attended were also very emotional and sensitive to be shared, so refining myself to be present, emotionally intelligent, and listening actively to these individuals that have undergone some forms of trauma or shared lived experiences is vital to truly understanding someone and validating their feelings towards the community. Ultimately, through my work I also developed a sense of accountability for my actions and responsibility to see through my goals, so goal setting and developing a good work ethic to meet these goals were significant outcomes of this field study experience.
