Touro University's Health Equity and Criminal Justice (HECJ) Lab based in Vallejo, CA is a graduate research lab that aims to provide equitable health solutions and assessments for justice-involved individuals/organizations. They are an independent agency that operates as a contracted research branch of Touro University, CA. Specifically, this lab is affiliated with the promotion and production of research related to the amplification of Black and brown voices in the community that are disproportionately affected by the criminal justice system. The HECJ Lab strives to redefine the culture around these marginalized communities by addressing the systemic disparities, promoting health equity, and ensuring their efforts create both positive upstream and downstream impacts along the way. The HECJ Lab team consists of two directors, a project manager, and a data analyst. Their work is independent from law enforcement to ensure integrity that reflects the community's voice, needs, and experiences.Â
