Winter Solstice Fire 21st December 2022

At seasonal times of the year we hold night events at the wood. These are exiting as they present a great opportunity to illuminate the wood with candles and candle lanterns with spectacular effect.

This is a large candle lantern the size of a victorian street lamp that is hung above the fire area for these events

The fire

People brought candles in jars to illuminate the wood as it is very dark there at night

Candles were used to illuminate the stone circle

You can see the Moroccan lantern in the centre of the stones, the fire and the sheltered seat so that the rain does not affect the evening

There is no light pollution here and the constellations look spectacular

A line of candles was lit right across the wood. This is called the lighting of the Beacons.

The night sky viewed through the tops of the trees looks unworldly

Christmas Tree Recycling. People bring rooted Christmas trees to plant in an area called Christmas Common. This one was planted the previous year and looked great in the snow. If people want to plant trees in the wood this is a great way to do it. A tree can be enjoyed over Christmas and then become part of the mixed woodland area of the wood.
