Due to the clay soil it is easy to create a pond in the wood, you just need to find a permanently damp area and dig. The ponds become a home for tadpoles who grow into frogs and toads. Sometimes a new pond needs a bit of a helping hand and the tadpoles have to be transplanted via a bucket, but by the following year they are reproducing independently. In a wet woodland you can never have too many ponds. There has been a vast increase in amphibians since the creation of the ponds with a variety of frogs, toads and newts.
