About Austin Butterfly Forum
Hatched in 1993, the Austin Butterfly Forum was formed to enrich people’s lives through butterfly conservation and public pollinator awareness. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing positive interactions with human beings of all ages and butterflies, moths, and other pollinators.
Among our founders and officers are some of the most credentialed entomologists in the country, and many of our members are also crazy about dragonflies, damselflies, bees, beetles, spiders and other arthropods, in addition to Lepidoptera; our meetings often cover those subjects as well.
Our Monthly meetings are held every 4th Monday during January to November, are open to the public, and are free to attend. This is possible as an educational component due in part as being a garden member of the AAGC. Meetings are held via Zoom or in person at the Zilker Botanical Garden as available.
Being a member of the Austin Butterfly Forum helps to support our organization and our events, and our Garden Club Membership to AAGC.
Educating members and guests in all aspects of butterfly study, conservation, and enjoyment.
Providing butterfly gardening information and resources to all interested parties.
Promoting the butterfly as an environmental indicator.
Encouraging knowledge and protection of the butterfly life stages.
Promoting the identification, rearing and release of butterfly species in Austin.

Lois Schubert, Treasurer, provided notice in January 2025 that she will be vacating her position. Lois was treasurer since March 2020. Lois dedicated many hours as treasurer, active member and volunteer. Over the years, she collected all dues, maintained safe keeping of all the ABF Corporation funds, kept records of all deposits and disbursements concerning financial matters, proposed financial budgets, paid invoices, provided records for audit, and maintained the current list of members. If you were lucky enough to walk with her or enjoy the comradery over pizza, drinking a beer, or even joined her while taking pictures in her other club the Shutterbugs, you would know that ABF will miss her presence and humor at our meetings and events. Lois, we hope you recover from surgery soon! Thank you for all your contributions, Lois! We hope to butterfly together soon.
Former Treasurer, 2020-2024
