Being a fairly new place focused on the inclusion of everyone through books, Reverie Books has been open for the last couple of years, turning three years old this upcoming fall. Reverie Books isn't just a small indie bookstore, they want to create a community, a safe and open space for everyone to be welcome. Through their focus, they prioritize social justice and give voices to multiple minorities and those who are usually overlooked. Not only that, but they focus on making the place open to local writers, poets, and songwriters, making sure to give all Austinites a place to show off their work.
Thais Perkins was the founder of this small bookstore, and just as they have become a refuge to her, Reverie Books is her goal to be able to create that refuge for others, with inclusion and discussions on important topics. Reverie Books has multiple programs and groups open to those who would like to participate. This bookstore truly makes everyone feel welcome and is more than a bookstore. With multiple events that everyone is welcome to during the month, Reverie also advocates for Austin writers.
Located in the corner of a small shopping center, this bookstore is often overlooked by passersby. It is very small, and walking in, they have a variety of sections for different stories. Reverie holds several of my favorite books and keeps a small nook, perfect for reading. One thing I love about this place is how homey it feels, the lighting makes me want to stay and read all day, and the smell of books is like a blanket over everyone who enters. They have multiple activities for exploration, a recent one I have loved is the “blind date with a book”. I love walking into this tiny bookstore with all my favorites and still feeling welcome to grab any book and start reading away.
As much as I don't want this place to get more attention, it really deserves it. They dedicate themselves to the Austin community and being such a small space, they're open to all visitors and people, they love to have anyone and everyone there, as long as you love books. Everyone deserves to experience the love of books by walking into a cozy store with dim lights and perusing through the shelves, picking out what may be their new favorite book.
