The Emma S. Barrientos
Mexican American Cultural Center's
Teen Leadership Program
Caminos is a paid ESB-MACC internship program empowering teens between the ages of 16 and 18 in the Austin, Texas area to start their creative journeys and help them start carving a career in the arts early on.
The Class of 2025 Caminantes completed their work on the Pocket Park located across the street from the Mexican American Cultural Center alongside artist Miguel Santana, their mentor for this project. Video out now!
Caminos Class of 2024 Graduation
In this 10-month-long paid intership, teens engage in art making, peer leadership building, and explorations of mental health. They graduate the program and go on to pursue college and careers while using the skills they've learned as peer leaders. Many of them continue in their careers with the Emma S. Barrientos Cultural Center or the City of Austin. Our Caminos graduates have gone on to be graphic designers, event producers, activity specialists, Summer Camp leaders, and more!
Our goal is to help Austin-area teens get a head start in the art scene in Austin while connecting with their community and the Latinx culture within it. We do this by participating in events held at our home base, the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, as well as by connecting with local emerging artists and hosting a few events/workshops ourselves.
