A day full of excitement and joy as we embarked an annual tradition of celebration and coming together to close off the year 2025. After completing a beautiful setup, we had a great time enjoying our self made potluck, engaging with pinata history, and the takedown of said pinata as well. This day was filled with amazing gingerbread house pieces, Loteria, white elephant, and scavengar hunt assembled by Caminante Levi. Overall emulating a successful gathering and a successful year overal.
We are not only making leaders, we are actively strengthening this community and providing the youth all the necessary tools to prosper. Overall we are extremely grateful towards our supporters and we are aiming for an amazing new year.
Caminos: thoughts on posadas?
Written by Bradley Bonilla-Sanchez
The posada is an event where it’s about Mary and Joseph’s travel to Bethlehem and trying to find a place to give birth to Jesus Christ. The word Posada in English means lodging where they have to look for a place for Mary and Joseph. The posada had been a tradition for quite awhile for about 430 years. Over the years it has been changed and shifted in many different ways over the past decades. Our version of the posada that we had was a fun and exciting event where we all came together and had a fun time. One of the things that we had done was that we all brought a significant dish that corresponds with our culture. Then we watched a video about the history of the pinata where it had originated from China and moved to Spain and Europe thanks to Marco Polo who brought the tradition to the rest of the Continent.
Then, we all gathered and all ate all the delicious food that each and everyone of us decided to bring. The next thing we did was that we all made Gingerbread houses. And we all got into teams and we had a race to see who could make the best house. The first team was Aiden, Camilla, Levi, Ruby then there was the second team of Ana, Conce and Bradley(me) and the last team was Jayla, Miguel, and David. Then we started making the houses and made it like a competition. It was going well, everyone's houses were going well and we were working very hard to get it done while amidst of having fun as well. Then while we were making our houses i noticed that team 3 was putting a bunch of stuff on their house or roof which i noticed might be a lot of weight to hold up on the house. But my team just continued to make our house which looked good and I wanna give credit to my teammates for doing the best job like for example Ana for coming up with the great ideas to make our house better and also to Conce for making the cute little characters and working on the house.
Then when we were done with the Gingerbread house competition we all decided to go and bust open a pinata outside at the library. While we were outside we kinda found a good spot for the pinata but we got told that we couldn’t do it there because for some weird reason so we ended up finding another spot to do it. And it was fun to actually hit it and get stuff out of it as well. I enjoyed hitting the pinata and whacking it with a broom and getting candy out of it as well. Then after all of that we then did the scavenger hunt that Levi put together where we either had to find things or do something. It was fun running around the Library and doing all the things we had to do. But it was also kinda tiring but mostly fun.
But overall, the Posada was a fun and amazing event that I enjoyed and had a fun time spending time with all my friends and my coworkers. I really had a fun time and appreciated all the time we had spent and been together. I really enjoy this job and I'm having such a wonderful time being here and I appreciate this opportunity having this job and I hope that everyone else has or had a good Christmas this year and I hope that everyone has an amazing start to the new year.
