Myra Waterbury began her karate training under Sensei Beebe. She was awarded her 3rd dan from Chief Instructor Sensei James Oberschlake in 2025. She has competed in multiple ISKF tournaments.
Wendy McVicker began her karate training under Sensei H. Beebe in 1991. She earned her shodan from Master T. Okazaki in 1994; she received the rank of yondan (also from Master Okazaki) in 2007. She has competed both nationally and internationally in ISKF tournaments, winning a silver medal with the U.S. senior women’s kata team at the Shoto Cup in Toronto, Canada in 2008, a bronze with Mid–America’s senior kata team at the ISKF US National Tournament in 2009 and a gold at the tournament in 2010.
Howard Beebe, godan, started karate in 1973 and earned his shodan in 1977. He began teaching karate in 1980, the same year he received his Masters in Philosophy from Ohio University (OU). Howard was part of the the OU Collegiate team that won first place in team kata at the very first ISKF National tournament in 1978 — other team members were Marty Vaughan and Chris Elsesser. They were then chosen to compete at the first Pan American Championships in Montreal, Canada where they won the gold medal.
In 1956, Golden enlisted in the US Air Force. He was deployed to Okinawa. While stationed in Okinawa Golden began learning Shotokan Karate from Noboru Kobayashi. In 1957, Golden began competing at various JKA tournaments. At the JKA All Japan Karate Championships. He was awarded a trophy for the “Best Fighting Spirit“. In 1961, Golden was promoted to 1st Dan. He was one of the first Americans promoted by the JKA. Golden returned to the United States in 1961 after his tour of duty ended. On his return, he was invited by Hidetaka Nishiyama to join his Los Angeles dojo. In 1968, Sensei Golden enrolled in an instructor trainee program that Master Nishiyama and Master Yaguchi patterned after the program used by the Japan Karate Association (JKA). Sensei Golden became one of the first non-Japanese to complete the program in 1969 and was licensed as an instructor by the Japanese Ministry of Education. In 1970, Golden relocated to Athens, Ohio and established a Karate club at Ohio University, and eventually another club at Ohio State University. Golden joined the ISKF after it was established in 1977. He was appointed to lead the Mid-American Region of the organization. In 1984 Golden was invited to Anchorage, Alaska, to teach some Karate classes. He became a technical advisor to the region and helped them to eventually join the ISKF. By 1998, Golden had been promoted to 6th Dan and was appointed to the ISKF Technical Committee by Okazaki and Yaguchi. On February 18th, 2019, Greer Golden passed away in Columbus, Ohio.
