What Is Lent?
Lent is a time of spiritual preparation, self-examination, and penance leading up to the celebration of Easter. Catholics use this time to imitate Jesus’ forty days of fasting in the desert.
It is an opportunity for us to deepen our relationship with God, seek forgiveness for sins, and grow in spiritual discipline. Catholics focus on self-denial, prayerful reflection, and charitable acts as a means of drawing closer to God.
Stations of the Cross
Our attendance at the beautiful devotion of Stations of the Cross during Lent has been dwindling. In order to help make it more convenient for people, this year we are moving Stations to Tuesdays. You are invited to walk the road to Calvary as we pray the Stations of the Cross this Tuesday, March 17, at 12 Noon in Our Lady of Lourdes Church or at 6:00 PM in All Saints Church..
Weatherly Ecumenical Service
The Weatherly Ecumenical Ministerium is having ecumenical Lenten Prayer Services every Wednesday evening during Lent. This Wednesday, March 18, at 7:00 PM we will host the ser-vice in Our Lady of Lourdes Church with light refreshments to follow. Please join us for this beautiful prayerful experience.
Food Collection
Let us make this Lenten season a true season of Prayer, Fasting, and Alms Giving. Baskets are now located near the Pieta in All Saints Church and near the Baptismal Font in Our Lady of Lourdes Church for anyone wishing to donate non-perishable items to help our local food pantries. Cash donations may be made by putting them in an envelope marked “Food Pantry” and dropped in any collection basket. Our drive will continue through Sunday, March 15.
Taize Prayer Service
Come, give your burdens and worries to the Lord at our Taize Prayer Service. What is Taize? Taize is a small village in the hills of the Burgundy region of France. It is home to an ecumenical community in the monastic tradition, founded during the Second World War by Brother Roger, whose prayer, three time each day, is at the center of their life. Today, Taize is a place to which visitors of all ages and backgrounds come on pilgrimage, to participate in international meetings of prayer and reflection.
The songs of Taize are meant to help people take time in God’s presence. They consist of small Scripture passages with easy melodies repeated over and over again. They are sung long enough to allow distracted thoughts to calm down and for the words to sink in. The faithful are asked to join in the singing as they become comfortable with the melodies. During the service there are also periods of silence for reflective meditation.
This is an ecumenical service and people of all denominations are welcome. Please join us on Sunday, March 15, at 6:30 PM in the Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 318 Plane St., Weatherly, PA.
