Press release-AMEA committee confirms 2022 conference in Korea

On May 3, 2022, the Asia Marine Educators Association(AMEA) Committee held video conference at 20:00 Japan time (GMT+9). This board meeting is chaired by AMEA President Tsuyoshi Sasaki (Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology), and the discussion includes 2022 4th AMEA conference from August 9-11 in Seoul, South Korea, the 5th Committee Election Mechanism, the 5th and 6th AMEA conference, and the change of WWF Hong Kong Committee representatives. In addition to the President Professor Tsuyoshi Sasaki, Secretary General Professor Yen Chia-Dai (Ray)(National Taiwan Ocean University), co-chairmen of the academic committee Professor Liu Xunhua (Ningbo University) and Professor Ma Yong (Ocean University of China), Chair of the Conference Committee Shin Chunhee (Korea Researrch council of Maritime Education), Prof. Song Wenhong (Ocean University of China), Dr. Kim Jongmun (National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea), Prof. Mohammad Uddin (University of Chittagong.), Prof. Zhang Yongbin (National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan), Prof. Zhang Zhengjie (National Taiwan Ocean University/Director of Taiwan Ocean Education Center), Angelica Baylon (Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific.), Chen Zhu (Secretary-General of Guangdong Ocean Association), Dr. Li Hu (Third Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, China), and the Advisory board member Peter D. Tuddenham (President/founder of CoExploration, USA), Russell Stevens (Head of Education, Two Oceans Aquarium), a total of 15 committee members attended the board meeting.

During the meeting, it was decided to hold the 4th AMEA conference in Seoul, South Korea on August 9-11, 2022. The third conference held in Qingdao, China in 2019 decided that South Korea would hold the fourth conference in 2021, however due to the impact of the COVID19 pandemic, the committee decided to postpone the conference for one year on June 25, 2021. The conference will be held with hybrod (online and personal), and registration will be open from May 20th. The theme of this conference is Directions of marine education to build ocean literate society. The contents include 1. Marine education case studies, 2. Marine education courses and activities at all levels, 3. Marine education practice and Project, 4. Marine education (including online marine education) under the COVID-19 pandemic, 5. Formal and informal marine education cooperation, 6. Ocean literacy development and assessment, 7. Marine-related traditional knowledge, 8. Other marine education topics. At the same time, a youth forum will be held on the afternoon of August 10, inviting Asian marine education youth to share their research results, hoping to establish a sustainable development mechanism for generational cooperation.

In addition, the fifth board member committee will be re-elected this year, and the first youth committee will also be elected. Welcome all marine educators to participate in the fifth committee, as well as recommend young people under the age of 30 to participate in the first youth committee.
