Jong-Mun Kim

A ceremony to mark the opening of Korea National Ocean Science Museum [KOSM] took place in Uljin, a beautiful city located in the East coast of Korea on July 31st, 2020. The KOSM is the first museum in the world constructed on the basis of ocean literacy framework. Establishing KOSM project was initiated in 2015 and invested about 90million US dollars to complete 12,000 square meters main hall, 400 meters long bridge over the sea connecting the main hall and the underwater observatory.

"One Ocean, One Planet" is the key word of KOSM. The visitors would be pleased to understand the close links between the ocean and all living things on the Earth including ourselves while they enjoy ten zones of the main hall.

The KOSM is expected to play important role of nurturing global citizens’ ocean literacy. It will also closely collaborate with marine education communities such as UNESCO, NMEA, EMSEA, CaNOE, IPMEN, and AMEA.
