At Pattie Elementary, I identified Multi-language learners as a group with an unfair disadvantage. I advocated for their use of technology at home to practice the skills they learn in school by promoting this vision to their parents in a Tech Night. By using technology at home to strengthen their learning from school, these students would gain a more level playing field in the classroom. Also, because parent support for home learning is so important, holding this Tech Night for our ESOL parents also leveled the playing field for our students as it helps these parents who may not be as familiar with the educational technology to learn how they can be supporting their students at home. I met with the teachers over English Language Learning, and my school’s principal to advocate for this tech night so that we could share this vision with parents and provide the support they needed to help their students.
