Curriculum Overview

At the elementary level, Ashford's general music curriculum combines elements from Conversational Solfege and Orff Schulwerk.  Lessons focus on experiential learning that promotes tuneful, beatful, and artful development.  Skills and concepts from the previous year are reviewed and continually practiced.  Students are exposed to music, and musicians, representing a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.

Ashford's middle school general music curriculum introduces ukulele, piano, and music technology while reinforcing skills and concepts from previous years.  Much of the middle school curriculum is deeply rooted in pop music pedagogy, incorporating student autonomy, voice, and choice.  Students continue to be exposed to more music, and musicians, representing a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.
