My second attempt at Global Game Jam came in 2019, where I again participated as part of a team. This time, we were all much more familiar with the basics of game development and as such were able to construct a much more coherent narrative in our prototype, despite the 48-hour deadline. The game follows a person who has just moved into an apartment in Sendai, Japan. Whilst unpacking their belongings, they discover that there is one box which they do not recognise. Shrugging it off at first, the box's presence soon becomes invasive and the protagonist's urge to open it becomes overwhelming. Once opened, however, the box's terrible secret is revealed and our hero's life quickly devolves into chaos and madness.
While the true contents of the box are never revealed, we deliberately chose to make it 'about the size of a human head'. Make of that what you will...
